What is your view on Twitter/ Facebook, Social Media?

My generation was given the gift of internet, which has opened the door for new jobs and ways of communication like nothing before. Two popular communication websites are Facebook and Twitter. Millions use these social media sites but I refuse to become part of the movement. The reason is, I enjoy the old fashion way of communication and the way it challenges your mind on the spot and makes you make sure that you do not say something you would regret. Making the effort, building up the courage, to talk to someone other than a family member, on your own, is a great skill to have and I believe that that skill is slowly dying due to the fact that it is easier to talk to someone when not in person than it is in person. Here's a video to support what I am talking about.

  1. Montee,

I think you have a very interesting view of communication. I think it is admirable that you value "the old fashion way of communication". I actually see this firsthand because each day of class so far you have greeted Alison and I with a "good morning". You are easy to talk to in person. This is a quality that not many people our age seem to have. It seems like small talk is being replaced with photo "likes" and tweet "favorites". Maybe because most people are too busy looking at their phones to notice the people around them?

I enjoyed the video you attached. I could relate to AsapSCIENCE's comment regarding Phantom Vibration Syndrome. I'm not a social media junkie, but I do check my texts all the time and as a result I have definitely experienced Phantom Vibration Syndrome.

    Nice post! :)

  2. I understand what you are getting at when you say talking to people in person is a great skill that you need know. I personally did not have Facebook for the longest time because all the people I talked to were the same people I saw everyday at school. However, talking face to face is not the only way to change your mind about something. The internet can change it too. You just have to search more into all the sides of the argument on your own. Its not just going to be given to you.
